Is Teeth Whitening right for me?
What are Teeth Whitening?
Teeth Whitening uses a peroxide-based gel to lighten the teeth. This effects the hard, outer surface of your teeth (the enamel) and whitens them. The correct percentage needed to whitening teeth is only available from the dentist. Lower percentages are available over the counter but these are not effective. This helps remove the discoloration of the teeth caused by smoke, coffee, and other lifestyle factors.
How does the Teeth Whitening process work?
All treatments begin with a dental exam and you should be dentally fit prior to treatment. Please note if you have undiagnosed dental issues whitening may make existing issues worse- and can lead to dental pain and infection. So ALWAYS check with your dentist first!
There are two types of Teeth Whitening
In Surgery Whitening
This involves a single application of whitening gel which is placed by your dentist in surgery, and an accelerator light is used to speed up the process. This takes 10 minutes and will make your teeth 3-5 shades lighter.
Home Whitening
The dentist will make your custom fitting whitening trays. You wear these at home for either an hour during the day or overnight for around 3-4 weeks. This will bring your teeth 6-7 shades later - and will eventually bring them to your lightest possible shade.
